artbreaks is an antidote, a small but delicious slice of visual poetry to delight the mind and eye
Mandy Chang
Head of Arts ABC

Artbreaks is what happens when artists are given the space to breathe and the trust to interpret a story without the aid of a detailed route map. Something increasingly rare in this world.

Each actor was given a poem to read without direction. Each film maker was given no more than the actor's spoken word as a clue on the road ahead. In some cases, music was created at the end of the production. In others; it helped guide the actors and directors from the outset. Ultimately, it's an experiment in improvisation and a celebration of collaboration.

The ABC relinquished any creative oversight and allowed the project to grow organically. We can't think of anyone else who would have afforded us such trust, as well as such a perfect platform as ABC iview to stage our final results. Proof if we needed it that "art comes to life at the ABC".
